According to National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data, the overall prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in the US is 41.6%, with the highest rates seen in African Americans (82.1%), followed by Hispanics (69.2%).

Vitamin D insufficiency affects almost 50% of the population worldwide. An estimated 1 billion people worldwide, across all ethnicities and age groups, have a vitamin D deficiency. This pandemic of hypovitaminosis D can mainly be attributed to lifestyle and environmental factors that reduce exposure to sunlight, which is required for UVB light-induced vitamin D production in the skin.

People with darker skin tones absorb more UVB in the melanin (skin pigment) than do people with lighter skin tones and, therefore, normally require more sun exposure to produce the same amount of vitamin D. Sun exposure unfortunately also brings damage to the skin, including wrinkles, loss of elasticity, visible pigmentation (such as age spots) and also capillary dilation. Let’s not forget to mention accelerated aging. That is why another option for assuring that you have enough vitamin D within your body is to take it as a supplement.

The “sunshine vitamin” is known to play a key role in the maintenance of bone health and calcium-phosphorus metabolism, yet many other functions of this vitamin have been recently postulated, such as modulation of the immune response in both infectious and autoimmune diseases.

Vitamin D has also recently been reviewed as one of the factors that may affect the severity of the COVID-19 virus. The objective of the study was to analyze the vitamin D level in COVID-19 patients and its impact on the disease severity.

According to research completed by Michael F. Holick Ph.D., MD, and his team from Boston University’s School of Medicine which compared 190,000 blood samples in a retrospective study, it was found that SARS-CoV-2 positivity was strongly and inversely associated with levels of vitamin D circulating within the bloodstream. This correlation appeared across latitudes, races/ethnicities, sexes, and different age ranges. This supports the need to explore the role of vitamin D supplementation in reducing the risk to an individual of COVID-19. There was also another study that presented some early data from the Philippines looking at vitamin D status and the severity of Covid-19 symptoms in 212 subjects. Interestingly, 86% of ALL cases among patients with normal vitamin D levels were mild, while 73% of cases among patients with vitamin D deficiency were severe or critical.

Overall, the trends surfacing for Spring and Summer 2021 are reminiscent of the early 2000s painted nail art trends. The 2000’s through the lens of 2021. Let’s take a look at our top five nail trends for the Spring/Summer season:

1. Pastels:

Pastels for spring are a time-honored tradition. Nothing quite says spring like soft floral pink, buttercream, or soft blue. The trouble often lies in choosing just one! Question is, why should you have to? Have a little happiness at your fingertips with an incredibly adorable and wearable pastel rainbow manicure! Wear it your way; as a gradient, in freestyle abstract rainbow line work, or as a modern take on the French! Anything goes, it’s 2021!!

2. French:

They say you can’t keep a good one down….and that is certainly true of the classic French manicure. Spring 2021 is bursting with modern and colorful takes on our tried and true. French manicures range from flowing lines, realistic ocean scenes, to geometric and almost deconstructed looks. 3. Hand-painted art:

Animal prints, cherries, strawberries, realistic florals, precious little clouds and stars, smiley faces, dotter daisies, yin and yang, and abstract free-style art are now trending. This is one of my absolute favorite current trends! It can be quick, easy, and is always eye-catching. No matter how minimal the marbled design it is bound to stop people in their tracks. It’s also another very wearable option for someone who is looking for a little something but doesn’t want a statement look. It’s an incredibly customizable look, as you can guarantee no one nail could possibly look the same. Technician-friendly designs. There is no right or wrong way to marble!!

With mask-wearing being the new norm, now more than ever brows are the staple beauty routine that you cannot go without. So frame those eyes and fill in those arches, ladies, and gents.  Wearing & maintaining groomed eyebrows is the cherry on top of a quick, simple beauty routine. It doesn’t matter if you’re headed to a holiday party or the grocery store: Having the best eyebrow products will make certain your eyebrows are always on point!

Creating the perfect eyebrow can be a bit technical but let’s try to keep it simple. Our Professional Makeup Artistry team at The Art Institute of Makeup recommends simple, yet effective holy grail products that create bomb brows every time.

Let’s start off with what you’ll need for your ideal brows: Eyebrow pencil (with spoolie brush applicator on one end), eyebrow powder, and eyebrow gel. With these three eyebrow essentials in place, you are ready to create beautiful eyebrows that frame your beautiful face.

Start by taking the spoolie brush applicator and brushing your brow hairs in gentle upward strokes. At this point, your eyebrows should look cleaner and shapelier. You may see some sparse areas in the front end of your brows or the tail end tip of your brows. Make sure the tip of your eyebrow pencil is sharpened and fill in those sparse areas in upward strokes. The Art Institute of Makeup team’s go-to is Inglot’s eyebrow pencil in 506. This color is ideal for anyone with a neutral undertone and tends to have gray or ashy hair color.

Once you have filled in those sparse hairs with Inglot’s 506 pencil you’ll be able to see a more naturally groomed look to your eyebrows. We no longer need to be concerned about blending out our contour all the way through or perfecting a stand-out pout. Now is the time to get creative and play up those eyes. Whether you’re looking for a clean look or glamming it up just because we are here to share with you our top 3 go-to products from Inglot Cosmetics that will help you make sure that your eyes will always make an entrance.

AMC Gel Eyeliner. Let’s start with our absolute go-to. A must-have in any makeup kit: the AMC gel eyeliner. This high-intensity pigment liner provides the best coverage after just one application. What Do Estheticians Do?

Before you can decide whether a career in this beauty field is the right post-graduation path, you need to understand what estheticians do. Estheticians:

• Are skincare specialists. These professionals have specialized knowledge of the skin and how to improve its quality.
• Use cosmetic skincare products. Unlike dermatologists, who treat medical issues, estheticians use cosmetic and beauty products such as facials, moisturizers, scrubs, and masks to help clients achieve their skincare goals.

If you’re an accomplished writer, many companies have a need for online content — and you can may be able to find some companies that need blog posts about makeup or other cosmetic topics. Alternatively, you can start your own blog and try to monetize it through ads or affiliate links.

Even if writing blog posts doesn’t make you a millionaire, this type of work has multiple benefits while you’re in school:

• You can schedule writing time around your classes
• You get to review what you’re learning in school while writing
• You can use any bylined work to market yourself once you graduate

Given the flexibility and other benefits, you might even decide to keep writing as a side gig after landing a permanent job once you graduate.

2. Work for a Local Spa

To gain some insight into the industry you’ll be working in, apply for a job at a local spa. You probably won’t be hired as a beautician until you have your certification, but you don’t need to be doing makeup work to learn about the job. Even working at the front desk at a spa will give you experience that will be valuable later on.

When you interview for jobs after school, you can use your time working for a spa as proof that you’re familiar with the industry. You won’t only have formal training, but you’ll also have personal experience interacting with clients and working with others in the field. This firsthand experience will help you stand out from other fresh graduates.

Additionally, you may learn a few insider tips from veteran beauticians while you’re at a spa. Develop relationships with the other staff, and ask them about their experience with different clients. 3. Sell Beauty Products

When you’re enrolled in a professional makeup certification program, you’re perfectly positioned to sell beauty products directly to consumers. You know what products work well and which ones are better to avoid, and you can show customers exactly how the various products should be used.

At-home parties are the perfect setting to showcase products and share your expertise, and many at-home parties occur in the evenings or on the weekends — when classes aren’t normally in session. Also, some of your beauty product customers may turn into clients after you earn your certification.

With a shortage of hand sanitizers, many have turned to DIY options. While it can be done at home with the right products, but IF it’s done incorrectly it can lead to severe skin irritation, including skin burning.

Here are a few things you need to know:
1. Never buy an at-home-made hand sanitizer from someone who wants to capitalize on the shortage and is trying to make a quick buck.
2. Although you might’ve perfected your DIY hand sanitizer recipe, you should never sell the product you’ve created to anyone.
3. If hand sanitizers have the correct ratio of alcohol to other ingredients they can also curb microbe exposure. But they can also dry out hands so adding an emollient such as aloe vera gel or glycerin to the mixture can help to prevent your skin from drying out while providing a pleasant smell.
The CDC reports, if DIY hand sanitizer is stored in a close bottle it could last for weeks.

Hand Sanitizer DIY as per Center for CDC instructions:
The ratio recommended by the CDC is made with 161 milliliters of isopropyl alcohol and 79 ml of emollient. If your solution is made up of two thirds 91%
isopropyl alcohol and one-third emollient the alcohol content of that mixture would be 60.6% (that’s 91 x ⅔ ). To make the alcohol content
higher that’s made from a ratio of three fourths 91% isopropyl alcohol and
one-fourth emollient would make a mixture that has an alcohol content of
68%.

Hand Sanitizer DIY as per World Health Organization (WHO) instructions:
The World Health Organization has a recipe for DIY hand sanitizer
production for parts of the world where clean water and commercial
sanitizers are hard to come by and even unavailable, their solution has an
even higher alcohol content. This mixture is made from 35 cups of 96%
ethanol, 145ml of 98% glycerol, and 417ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide which
is added to help reduce bacterial contamination of the hand sanitizer
and “is not an active substance for hand antisepsis,” the WHO says.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. I’m here to give you romantic & achievable looks that you can create for yourself and to impress your special someone. My rules for getting the best looks are keeping things simple, and opting in for soft pinks that melt into deep reds.

When it comes to your complexion, stick to a foundation with a hydrating formula.  I recommend Inglot’s AMC Foundation; it is perfectly dewy in all the right places. Inglot’s foundation, not only creates a glowing canvas, it is infused with truffle oil. Your skin will love the way it feels!

 Look # 1, Splashes of Makeup.

This Fall, don’t think much about blending and have fun with colors creating looks of ways of color all over the eyes and into cheeks will have you looking fashion-forward and channel your creativity. This look is known as Splashes on Makeup on Face. Creating this look is very simple; all you need is a good eyeshadow pallet that has colors that like, and your fingers. Just creating a wave of two colors on the eyelid and dropping into the cheeks will make you look on-trend and have people ask you how long it took you.

 Look #2 is a classic but always perfect the Barely-There Makeup.

This is a no-makeup look that is always a runway classic, intended to enhance beauty without interfering and to allow the skin to have a fresh and clean face. INSTANT CLEANING PROCEDURE

• Brush Cleaner is a must have and can be sprayed on a towel to moisten area, then sprayed on brushes as well.
• Proceed to wipe them on a paper towel or cloth towel using a cross “t” or figure 8 movement, until no color is evident.
• Spray 70% or higher alcohol on brushes after they are clean without drenching them! Now they are good to go for the next client.

AFTER ONE WEEK OF USE PROTOCOL

• Grab the soft soap or shampoo and apply a dab on each brush. Using warm water move brushes in a figure 8 pattern or use a cross “t” motion to remove all product.
• Remove excess water on a paper towel or cloth towel. Best to leave brushes dry overnight on a counter.
• When completely dry spray with 70% alcohol and rest assured bacteria and dirt will not thrive!
• If you are a busy Makeup Artist do this at the end of each day!
