Are you trying to be more ecofriendly by switching to reusable coffee cups for your morning commute or bringing your lunch in washable containers? People are becoming more environmentally conscious and so is the beauty industry.

Most people who use makeup use it daily and reapply frequently. As soon as the product runs out, the container gets tossed and added to the pile of garbage already polluting our planet. But now companies such as Inglot Cosmetics are developing products that will make you and the environment happy.

Genderless Beauty
A time has come in our lives where people are more accepting of how others identify. Today, more than ever before, people are able to express themselves in a way that isn’t look down on. We are not saying everyone is gung-ho about this shift, but slowly we are getting to a place where it’s okay to be who you want to be.
This change can be seen on social media, television and your favorite store as fashion designers produce outfits that can be worn by both girls and boys and beauty experts are conjuring up fragrances that can be worn by men and women. People are learning to focus more on the individual, and not their gender.
Beauty brands are introducing inclusive products with no gender skew. From face and body products to makeup, doors are opening for all customers, eliminating bias. Diversity is being showcased by focusing on more than just one skin type, body type or gender.
Companies are also looking for ways to be environmentally savvy and budget friendly, because that’s the cool thing to do. Everyone wants a “not tested on animals” product, or one that doesn’t kill our environment, but at the same time isn’t going to break the bank.
According to one study by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, on average, products for women or girls cost 7 percent more than comparable products for men and boys. We are moving away from what was known as the “Pink Tax.” We as women will no longer have to pay more for our shampoo. Thank you gender-neutral products and thank you men for accepting that you want the same thing, youthful skin. Thank you for jumping on the Botox, facial, spa and even makeup bandwagon with your wives, girlfriends or sisters.

Digging Deep: A Potential Ban of Beauty Ingredients

Every day, we wake up and proceed to the bathroom to apply lotions, serums and fragrances to our body not knowing that some of those products contain ingredients that may soon be banned by the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act.

If the Safe Cosmetic and Personal Care Products Act of 2018 passes in Congress, some ingredients including ocinoxate, benzophenones and toluene, would be banned. If banned, manufacturers would have one year to eliminate the in-question ingredient.

Personal care products haven’t been regulated in 80 years. That’s eight decades of new ingredients being pumped into little bottles and jars.

Before you make your next purchase, make sure you research what ingredients are in the products you are using to protect yourself and eliminate them from your shelves. See below for a full list of ingredients being evaluated for elimination.

Benzophenones (benzophenone, benzophenone-1, benzophenone-3 aka oxybenzone);

Octinoxate;

Butylated Hydroxyanisole and Butylated Hydroxyoluen;

Coal tar dyes (p-Phenylenediamine);

Cocamide Diethanolamine;

Dibutyalated Phthalate (Phthalates DBP), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP);

Toluene;

Styrene or Styrene acrylates;

Formaldehydes (Methylene glycol/methanediol/formaldehyde) and Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, methenamine, quaternium-15 and sodium hydroxymethylglycinate);

Triclosan;

Lead acetate or other lead compounds; and

Parabens (isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, phenylparaben, benzylparaben, pentylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben).
